Beginning in December 2016, nclud partnered with Bethesda Softworks, the videogame company behind legends like DOOM, Fallout, and Wolfenstein, to establish a multi-phased digital campaign announcing the release of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus.

Wolf is a cult classic first-person-shooter game, with a devoted fan base and dystopian plot involving killing Nazis in a post-war, German-conquered America. Its main hero, the storied BJ Blazkowicz, has returned for its latest installment, and so we needed to help Bethesda Softworks not only promote the game to general gaming audiences, but showcase his story to the hyper-loyal base of players who enjoy historical fiction, action-adventure, and first-person-shooter games.

Phase one of this project was the unveiling of the landing page during E3 in June, when the game was first announced. We used a simple, single-page experience highlighting just enough cool gameplay action to keep people intrigued to link them to the Pre-Order destination. In this phase, we primarily dealt with constraints around age-gated content and how that affects experience accessibility. We also faced particularly unique localization challenges: Wolfenstein is super popular in Germany, where all references to swastikas are understandably illegal, so we had to create an experience that would be strong enough to contextualize the game when stripped of any foreboding content.

Additional work on this project has not yet launched.
