In the end of 2013, The Post set out to redefine the brand and shake up what we knew about our tablet user base. Under new leadership, we were pushed to explore new boundaries in UI and UX design, while staying true to what our readers want: great content in an easy to read format.
My team and I worked through nine concepts and five prototypes before finally isolating a simple scrolling experience with bold visuals. The bold visual styles capitalize on the best aspects of digital technology using fast load times and custom image optimization innovations while the Postoni classic type provides a nod to the newspaper. The rich visual juxtaposition of bold contrast mixed with a simple, understated UI provide a clean, intuitive reading experience.
